Yesterday was a little stressful.
I was behind on a deadline for work, but with the help of some
co-workers what needed to get done, got done and everything worked out. I knew
it would, but my morning was still stressful. First thing that morning I had a
meeting to attend about health insurance, always a fun topic. So, I got to my
actual office late. Then we've updated our Office software so simple tasks are
now in new locations and what use to take a few seconds was now taking several
minutes. Needless to say, the morning wasn't going as smoothly as I would have
liked! I took a late lunch and was going to get
a quick bite to eat. I decided I would go get some fast food and bring it back
to the office. I was in a funky mood and didn't feel like taking a long break.
So I figured now would be a good time to bless someone else.
A few weeks ago my sister Nicole
posted a story on Facebook. Have y'all heard those stories about people at fast
food establishments, or coffee shops paying for the car behind them? You know,
you get to the window to pay for your order but you also pick up the tab for
the guy behind you. Well, Nicole was the blessed in her story. The lady in
front of her was having a rough day and told the employee at the window she
would like to pay for Nicole's order to ensure Nicole would have a better day
than her.
I've heard of several people
doing this across the country, but I've never actually known anyone who's received
this generosity. I don't know the woman who paid my sister's tab, but I do know
her simple act of kindness did make my sister's day better.
So as I sit in line waiting to
order and pay for my food I'm reminded of this story. I figure now is a good
time to go ahead and pay for the car behind me. The employee was a little
confused and even called for a manager. She needed to make sure it was okay for
me to pay for the car behind me. I told the employee, "I'm having a stressful morning
and I just wanted to try and make the car behind me have a better day than
mine."
I'll probably never know the
story of the car behind me. I'll probably never meet that person. I might never
know if that made their day better or not. However, I do know, when my sister received
a similar blessing it made her day better. I'm hopeful it did the same for the woman behind me. I also know, after I paid for their
meal, my day got better. My situation hadn't changed but my perspective changed.
Listen, I know a simple act of kindness might not change
your situation but trust me it'll change you. If you feel
depressed, discouraged, or lost. I encourage you to try and bless someone else today I guarantee
it will help you, it's helping me!
