This
blessing took place the week of June 1st – 7th
If
you have followed my blog you know part of my job is providing
elderly and handicap resident's transportation vouchers, to help offset their transportation
costs. Every three months I send participants coupons and bus passes via mail.
One
of the participants on the program called to inform me see received the wrong
coupons. Now, I know what you are thinking, how is that possible Jennifer is
perfect? Sadly, you are wrong and like you I'm merely human and did indeed make
a mistake. I knew I had to make things right. I needed to make sure she got the
correct coupons.
It
was Friday June 6th and she had appointments on Monday, and really
needed the right coupons. She didn't have a way to get to the office to
exchange coupons. I told her to not worry. I made the mistake I was going to
make sure she had the right coupons before Monday. I told her I would take time
during my lunch hour to run by her home and exchange coupons.
Most
of my life is an adventure and like most things this simple task turned into an
ordeal. I have a gift for making things more difficult than necessary. It was
raining, not sprinkling, raining. I was wearing a white shirt, and of course
didn't have an umbrella. I went across the hall and asked a co-worker/dear friend
of mine, Christy, if she wanted to embark on the adventure with me and if she
had one could bring an umbrella. She chuckled and accepted my invitation. She even escorted
me to the driver's door to ensure my white shirt stayed dry. We were successful
in getting into the car and both remained dry. When we arrived at the participant's home,
Christy handed me the umbrella, and wished me good luck. I rang the doorbell the participant
answerd we exchanged conversation and coupons and I left.
As I'm walking back to the car Oscar, my husband, called I answer the phone. Its'
still raining and I'm still using the umbrella. (Side note for those of you who don't know I'm
from the desert I don't use umbrellas on the regular so I'm not skilled when it
comes to closing them.) I get to the car, Oscar still on the phone, I open the
door, and I get in, but can't get the stupid umbrella to close. I hand the
phone to Christy who is now trying to coach me on how to close an umbrella
while trying talking to Oscar. My car door is still open, it's still raining, and
I still can't figure out how to get this stupid thing to latch shut. Christy
hangs up with on Oscar, continues to coach me but alas still no luck. It's
still raining… So, logically, I shut the door and squeeze the open umbrella
into the car with me… Now safe from the rain but stuck in between my driver's
seat and an open umbrella. Christy is FINALLY able to help assist and succeeds in
getting the umbrella closed. Once closed she turns and says, I should've taken
a picture… Honestly, I'm a little disappointed we didn't think to take a picture.
Like
I said I have a gift. I now also have a fear my family will buy me an umbrella
that will come with a "how to operate" guide for Christmas.
Life
is too short to not take advantage of moments like these. We will all have
storms we face; but in the midst of those storms try to remember to not only
dance in the rain but giggle.
Layla has been afraid of umbrellas forever -- she doesn't know what they are for, but will soon find out.
ReplyDeletePS -- I finally figured out how to post comments without posting on FB...might still be hope for me.
